Transportation from Cabo to La Paz Mexico?

Hi there, looking to take a trip to La Paz Mexico. Thinking about flying to Cabo because fares are cheaper. I have rented a car before and it took about 1.5hrs to get to La Paz and have also taken the bus before, which took 3+hrs. Is there anything in between? Maybe a bus that goes direct that takes the same time as renting a car? Any help is greatly appreciated!
