How can i get my xbox 360 to run smooth?

ive had my 360 for a few years now and as of lately it seems to be slow and making some games kind of choppy, i have an intercooler on it, it sits in a well ventilated area, the vent holes are never covered, ive tried clearing the cache, and it still seems like its running slow. what can i try next?
